The Servant Justifies Many

¹¹ After this ordeal, He will see satisfaction. “By His knowing [pain and sacrifice], My righteous Servant makes many righteous; it is for their sins that He suffers. ~ Isaiah 53:11 (CJB)

The death of the Servant was designed to accomplish something very specific: our atonement! Because of His sacrifice, our sins can be viewed as righteous by Adonai. His atoning death made it possible for those who believe in Him to be forgiven of our sins (past, present, and future) and become transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Yeshua is the Satisfied One. Was Yeshua angry at what we put Him through? No. Hebrews 12:2 tells us it was for the joy set before Him, [He] endured execution on a stake as a criminal, scorning the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Again, the Letter to the Hebrews explains the requirements of the sacrificial system in the Tanakh. The sacrifice of animals in the Temple was only a shadow of the reality to come when Yeshua became our sacrifice.

¹¹ Now every cohen stands every day doing his service, offering over and over the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. ¹² But this one, after He had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, sat down at the right hand of God, ¹³ from then on to wait until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. ¹⁴ For by a single offering He has brought to the goal for all time those who are being set apart for God and made holy. ¹⁵ And the Ruach HaKodesh too bears witness to us; for after saying, ¹⁶ “‘This is the covenant which I will make with them after those days,’ says Adonai: ‘I will put my Torah on their hearts, and write it on their minds…,’” ¹⁷ He then adds, “‘And their sins and their wickednesses I will remember no more.’” ¹⁸ Now where there is forgiveness for these, an offering for sins is no longer needed. ¹⁹ So, brothers, we have confidence to use the way into the Holiest Place opened by the blood of Yeshua. ²⁰ He inaugurated it for us as a new and living way through the parokhet, by means of His flesh. ~ Hebrews 10:11-20 (CJB)

Other writers of the Brit Hadashah have this to say about Yeshua’s atoning death.

My children, I am writing you these things so that you won’t sin. But if anyone does sin, we have Yeshua the Messiah, the Tzaddik [Righteous One], who pleads our cause with the Father. ~ 1 John 2:1 (CJB)

That is, God clears everyone who puts his trust in this man, even in regard to all the things concerning which you could not be cleared by the Torah of Moshe. ~ Acts 13:39 (CJB)

¹⁸ In other words, just as it was through one offense that all people came under condemnation, so also it is through one righteous act that all people come to be considered righteous. ¹⁹ For just as through the disobedience of the one man, many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the other man, many will be made righteous. ~ Romans 5:18-19 (CJB)
